What makes Steven's Hope different from other organizations?
Our programs generally provide for families AFTER
the child has been discharged from the hospital
and is receiving "outpatient" treatment.
Other well-known national organizations located
near hospitals do fantastic work and offer similar
services. However, they are designed for the family
while the child is IN the hospital. Our signature
program, Housing for Hope, may provide the family
with a fully furnished residence and all the necessities.
We try to be the place families go as they transition
from the hospital to home. As an example, a heart
transplant patient may be discharged from the
hospital as soon as 3 weeks after the surgery,
but would be required to stay within 20 minutes
of the hospital for up to 6 months.

How is assistance requested?
In order to receive assistance, 1) a child must be referred to Steven's Hope by a hospital social worker, 2) the family should demonstrate they are financially in need of assistance, 3) the social worker must complete the appropriate request application specifying the type of support and approximate length of time needed.

What
is "financial
need?"
A financial need would be a shortfall of money to pay for the necessary living expenses away from home during the required outpatient treatment at selected facilities that cannot be made up from family sources, i.e., savings, insurance, their own community or church.

No. There is no minimum or maximum income guidelines. Our assistance is based solely on need.
What type of assistance is available?
We try to supplement the expenses that are incurred by the family while away from home relating to the extended care of the child. It may be assisting with housing, meals, or flying in a relative to help in the child's recovery efforts.

Yes. We will help families that do not have the financial support to meet the additional needs expense. If a family has the resources from personal savings, insurance, family, friends, community, etc., and cannot demonstrate the need for our support, their request for assistance will be denied.

We operate out of a modest office space, have
minimal payroll and rely heavily on volunteer
efforts. We do have to pay for things like phone

expenses. Much of our promotional materials design,
letterhead, phone system and most of the office
supplies are being donated. The rest of the money
is going to our programs.

word of mouth advertising. We have a quarterly

Will Steven's Hope work with any other charities?
Yes. That is why we created Fill A Need. From time to time, we will work with other non-profits with similar goals, as we will be able to help the community more by joining forces for a specific purpose. It is an opportunity to increase public awareness of our goals, and continue our quest for assisting more children.
